Quite acceptable self-discharge characteristics. When I checked them, the FMA charger either showed 100% full, or went immediately to "Balance" and shut off after adding about 20mAh. I have since flown many "radio test flights" with it and the pack is performing as well as it did when it was put into the plane in 2006!Īs an experiment, I left all of my "A123" packs fully charged last fall. I was amazed! Before the first flight I did a "top off" charge/balance using my FMAdirect CellPro 10S set to Li-Po store. I got it down to set up the new receiver in it and checked the voltages of each cell. The fuselage, with the 6S "A123" 2300mAh pack, had hung in my basement for over a year. I did not fly it at all in 2009, not one flight. I wanted to use my Flite 40 to do some radio testing. (5C is 12 minutes for those who have a hard time with the notion of C rates.) I just find that, for me, these are the cells that I use the most.
I want to make it clear that I do NOT believe that the cells from A123 Systems are the be all and end all of battery technology for electric flight! There are many very valid and excellent reasons to use Li-Poly batteries, especially now that they can be charged at 5C rates. This customer really appreciates those small attentions to detail….Please convey to all those who assisted me today in dis-assembling my aircraft….The Club Newsletter of the Electric Flyers Only, Inc I just wanted you to know that I am extremely pleased so far with your service!Īnd thanks again to the guys who went right out and covered my aircraft with plastic to keep it protected while other aircraft were being worked on in the area. you have a great bunch of folks at your shop, ‘taking care of business’.
I am still amazed and in awe of the entire operation/production I witnessed today … everyone working their ‘tails’ off and getting it done! The planes that were outside on the ramp which you recently painted were remarkable works of art and a true testament to the pride you guys take in painting aircraft. You guys treated me wonderfully, were helpful in providing tools I had forgotten to pack, and answered all my questions without hesitation.
To say I was VERY IMPRESSED with your operation is an understatement!)! Everyone I encountered in the ’shop’ from your son Sean, John the A&P, and the young lady laying out striping on wheel pants, were the friendliest, most professional individuals I have ever met. arrived back in Camarillo, CA (262 NM) about 1.5 hrs later. Departed your shop and Kingman today at 1500…. Hi Rick, Mary and entire staff at Straube’s Aircraft Service. Please thank everyone who put hands on her…from beginning to end.
It really was a great process and I do deeply appreciate your collective efforts. Take some pride in knowing the hard work will touch many. It is a symbol of their service to state and nation and you guys were such a big part of that. It has always been about the men and women of the Arizona Air National Guard: past, present, and future. This endeavor was never about me getting to fly a cool 1950’s jet. We have received a ton of compliments on the airplane already. From updates to phone calls and videos….your collective efforts turned out an absolutely stunning airplane….just stunning. From beginning to end, this has been such a great process. Your reputation made it an easy choice as did your efforts to work with us.
From the very beginning of this project, I wanted an Arizona company involved and it became clear early on that it would be you. I am not exactly sure where to begin but a good place would be to offer a sincere thanks for the work all of you did.
